Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the programme companies should have:

  • A turnover of £400,000 or more.
  • Developed an international growth strategy which supports the project.

Please note, the role of the business manager is to develop international strategy or operations and must not be focused on generating sales for the company. 

Description and how it can help

Successful internationalisation by companies requires a range of specific skills and knowledge. Some companies may need to address specific skills gaps and knowledge requirements.

Scottish Development International recognises the need to support companies in developing and implementing their internationalisation strategies.

International Business Manager for Hire offers Scottish companies:

  • The opportunity to employ a highly qualified business professional within their offices.
  • Support for international development plans. The specific remit of the Manager is always determined by the individual company.

Any costs included

Up to 50 per cent funding paid in arrears by Scottish Enterprise to cover salary costs, although funding cannot support recruitment costs.

Any partners or partnership working involved

This product is managed by Scottish Development International - funded by Scottish Enterprise and The Scottish Government.

Duration of the service

The International Manager for Hire programme normally lasts up to 12 months.
